My World Tour of Justin Bieber
By: Grace Tate
While everyone else was being potty trained, Justin Bieber was playing drums. While everyone else was writing papers for English class, Bieber was writing a song that would surely be stuck in the heads of Americans everywhere. While everyone else was learning how to drive, Bieber was touring the world performing for thousands of screaming tweens (and occasionally older fans) every night. It is simply undeniable that "Bieber Fever" has swept the country with his tour My World. On tour with fellow singing sensation Sean Kingston and a talented newcomer Jessica Jarrell, it is definitely a concert worth seeing. The main attraction, Bieber, knows how to work the stage by not only being adorable as can be but by being a natural born performer, proven by his impressive dance skills. Although he is not typically the reason people go to the show, Sean Kingston contibutes a Jamaican pop feel to the tour which is very entertaining. Upcoming star Jarrell displays her extreme talent as an opening act for Kingston and Bieber. Bieber also does an excellent job of showcasing his talented background singers that were discovered, like himself, on youtube. Although the general audience is younger females, all three major acts have qualities that are appealing to all ages. All-in-all, whether you are a personal victim or just know someone infected by the Bieber fever, all of the artists on his tour, My World, are talented entertainers and amazing to watch. Many would definitely recommend seeing the tour if the opportunity presents itself. If you cant see it this time around, then the second leg of the tour will return to Atlanta on December 23rd. Before attending his concert one must warned that Bieber fever is the new Swine Flu and is highly contagious.
New Movie The Last Song
For years author Nicholas Sparks has captivated the country with his love tales usually hitting close to home for so many southern women, as nearly all of his works are related to small town southern love. Sparks' newest success was found in the hit movie, whose screen play was written by Sparks himself, The Last Song. The Last Song was released on DVD August 17, 2010 and had already made millions in the box office. Whether it was the beautiful writing of the beloved author or the showcase of teen sensation Miley Cyrus in this movie, it was an undeniable sensation. The movie is an excellent "chick flick" that, like many of Sparks' books, pulls at the heart strings. Cyrus plays a girl from New York sent down to the south to spend the summer with her father. As the story line follows every typical girls daily lives with love, family struggles, and growing up, its a story any girl can relate to. While we might not all have the beauty of Cyrus or the gorgeous boyfriend played by Liam Hemsworth, the movie is an accurate dipiction of struggles and excitement any teenage girl may face throughout their course of growing up. Not only is the movie appealing due to its close-to-home feeling, but there is also good reason behind the scenes that seemed like a Georgia coastal city. The movie was filmed on Tybee Island, Georgia. Also recommended is the book The Last Song which, although is similar to the movie, goes into greater detail in some aspects of the story and is a quick, easy read.
Eat, Pray, Love Article
As the world keeps changing from day to day and American's needs and wants tend to fluctuate, there are three things that many Americans keep constant: their desire to eat, pray, and love. While we may all eat different things, pray to different gods affiliated with different religions, and love many people in many ways, these three things dominate present in American society. Elizabeth Gilberts memoir Eat, Pray, Love was recently turned into a film that hit the big screen starring Julia Roberts. The movie follows Gilbert's character (played by Roberts) while she goes on a search to find herself after realizing how she has simply forgot how to feel alive. In order to rejuvenate herself, the author spends time in Italy, India, and finally Bali. While in Italy, Gilbert dines in all the fine restaurants and is on a mission to leave no calorie behind. In India, Gilbert lives in a religious haven where she learns to pray. Finally, Gilbert ends up in Bali where she learns to love herself and strives to learn that you must love yourself before you can ever love anyone else. This movie falls under the category of a great chick flick as well as a reminder that while we may not all be able to travel the world in search for ourselves, we must never forget that living and being alive are two separate entities entirely.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower Review
High school is far from easy at times. Making an already challenging four years even more difficult is living in a town like Cartersville, Georgia where a majority of people tend to talk about every detail of their fellow Cartersvillians lives. Sometimes we all just wish we could be a wallflower that no one noticed. The novel by Steven Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, discusses just as the title suggeststhe perks of being a wallflower. The novel was written through a series of letters from a boy under the alias of Charlie writing to an unknown character. Charlie rambles about the trials of going unnoticed through all of high school and his trials faced by everyday high school students. The teenage boy relentlessly shares his thoughts in a desperate attempt for someone to listen so he doesnt have to keep everything to himself. Through falling in love, going to his first real party, the loss of a loved one, the temptations of illegal drugs, and striving to be a successful student, the novel follows a story that almost anyone could relate to. The book is an easy read and enjoyable from the first page all the way through the very end. The book is by no means sugar-coated and is written as a mature novel discussing topics such as homosexuality, drugs, and sexual promiscuity. The blunt discussion of all of these topics that are present in every high school is what makes the book such a successful and pleasurable read. Often times these topics are not brought up in literature for fear that society may disapprove, however, the novel is written from the vantage point of a high school student's letters which is quite out of the ordinary. This novel is easily one of the most realistic and relatable books and is great for those moments when Cartersville isnt the most exciting place in the world.
VMA'S
Music is one of the most powerful things in the world. A single song or lyric can invoke all kinds of emotion. MTV has been a large part of the music industry since the early 80s. Recently, MTV hosted the 2010 Video Music Awards. Whether it be an outrageous Madonna-Britney-Christina kiss or Kanye barging onto the stage to steal Taylor Swift's spotlight moment, the VMAs never fail to entertain its viewers. This year was no exception. Hosted by Chelsea Handler and with amazing performances by Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, B.o.B., Kanye West, Usher, Paramore, and more, it was a show that shouldn't have been missed. No matter what genre of music the audience enjoys, there was something played for everyone's taste. The VMAs will be airing several times over the next few weeks, and is great for when you are procrastinating homework! The fashion statements, winners of the Moon Man, and wild performances keep the audience engaged throughout the award ceremony.
Life
Life is defined as a particular aspect of existence. No matter where we look life surrounds us in everything we do. While we see life everyday, the Discovery Channel takes the outlook on life to a whole new level with their newest series Life. By using unimaginable footage, this series takes the viewers' perspective of the world that surrounds us to a whole new level. The series is divided up into multiple parts focusing on a specific kind of life such as mammals, reptiles, birds, etc. The viewer can see all aspects of the world in a new light. Life is known as the second part to the Discovery Channels first hit Planet Earth. This series truly opens your eyes to a world you have never seen before whether it be the segment on flying fish or the wild chase of an ibex by a mountain lion, this show never ceases to amaze.
Haunted Corn Maze' Review
Halloween is a time of scares and treats. The Haunted Corn Maze located across from the Pizza Farm in Rockmart is a guaranteed treat with possibly a couple of tricks. Although on weekends the line can be fairly long, its definitely worth the wait. While haunted houses appear to be overpriced, the Corn Maze is fairly priced at ten dollars per ticket. Even though the Corn Maze isn't much of a maze and would be very difficult to get lost in, there are magnificent terrors around every corner. The corn maze doesn't take longer than five to ten minutes but isn't bad considering it is one of the most inexpensive scares around. Go ahead and grab a big group of friends for a great time in Rockmart because after all, what else is there to do in Cartersville?
This dark tale of a ballerina gone mad proves both thrilling and engaging. This new film is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat for the full two hour duration. While it is not made for everyone due to some gruesome and graphic scenes, overall this movie is one that definitely makes you think. Unlike most movies, the plot of The Black Swan follows Natalie Portman in her endeavor to become a flawless ballerina. Unfortunately, in her quest for perfection she must seek out a darker side of herself that ultimately drives her mad. As she strives to embody the dark black swan, the mallicous portion of herself consumes her life in it's entirety and ultimately becomes who she is on and off the stage. The pressure of the striving for ultimate perfection drives her insane making for both an exciting and nail-biting movie.
Tarascos
Looking for an excellent Mexican meal but El Nopal is just too packed? Surprisingly, there is a new and delicious restuarant here in Cartersville. Off of Highway 293 near the Red Barn Grocery sits a new restuarant called Tarascos which is guaranteed to be delicious. While it isn't really in the middle of town like the rest of the restaurants, this "hole-in-the-wall" is a fine addition to the selection of eatery in Cartersville. For the longest time El Nopal has been the only option available to satisfy that craving for some delicious Mexican food. That simply isn't the case anymore. Cartersville is actually offering options. While we may still be confined in many senses I encourage anyone and everyone to try out the new addition to our happy little town
JacVanek.com
Needless to say, Cartersville isn't always known for their outrageous shopping scene. It is also known is that technology is now taking over everything. Soon, you will be able to do anything from the comfort of your computer. Included in the convienance of the internet is online shopping. If you happen to be looking for any sort of rebellious fashion with inspirational background, Jacvanek.com is definitely the place to be. From jewelry to tshirts Jacvanek.com has it all. I would advise that while venturing on the website, reading the descriptions for every item is very thought-provoking. The way Jac Vanek describes each items that she has personally designed makes the merchandise even more inspirational and engaging. With all the time we spend online these days it is definitely a site worth checking out!
Apple seems to be taking the country by storm with the companies cutting-edge technology changing the way we listen to music, browse the web, and even the way we view our cell phones. Ever since the Iphone first came out the Verizon Wireless costumers have enviously watched while AT&T held exclusive rights to sell the Iphone. However, it appears that now Verizon is catching up to speed after sorting through contracts with Apple to now entitle Verizon to also sell the Iphone. The only problem is will it be as good as AT&T's Iphone? While both companies will have the newest Iphone is stock (Iphone 4G) many people fear Verizon's network will not be able to sufficiently support the demands of Iphone users. Anything short of the lightening quick service AT&T customers have on their Iphones will be unacceptable to Verizon customers. While it may take some time, Verizon has full faith they can meet and exceed the standards and expectations of their customers while using the newly attained Iphone.
127. To everyone else this is merely a number. For Aron Ralston this is the number of hours spent with his arm wedged underneath a boulder in the Grand Canyon with no hope of help. With only the item in his pocket, Aron (played by James Franco) survives for 127 hours in a new movie coming out based on Ralston's real life experience. Franco plays Aron an adventurer that explores a new aspect of life everyday. Quite simply, Aron doesn't need anyone but himself. Aron's will to survive overcomes everything as he eventually saves himself but not without leaving something behind. This movie is based on real adventures of a real person and is truly a wonder to watch. For a great weekend out I highly recommend going to see 127 hours.
What if there was a world where each human was engineered to be perfect? The book Uglies is the fictional futuristic story of a world where once an individual turns sixteen they undergo a change from ugly to pretty. While there insides may be the same their outer appearance is completely changed into a beautiful being. Everyone is simply beautiful. From full lips to the perfect body each individual is considered to be externally perfect. The series of surgeries isn't always accepted though. A select few people don't believe its right to have their own body transformed without any say in the matter. This book is part of a series that is followed by Pretties, Specials, and Extras. Although the size of the book may be intimidating it is a very easy read and is exceptionally interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone thats has ever wondered if a utopian society is actually possible or if humans are simply not designed to be perfect.
Senior lunch is always such a rush. For you underclassmen out there, believe me, 50 minutes isn't nearly as much time as you would think. Too often us seniors find ourselves in a dead sprint to class to beat to buzzer of the bell. The only place I have found that actually gives you a real meal that isn't rushed is Dragon Garden. Depsite its hole-in-the-wall appearance, Dragon Garden is simply delicious. From their excellent egg drop soup to their amazing sweet and sour chicken, there is no way you can go wrong. They are virtually never busy and the service is very quick. Not only is the food delicious, but it is also very reasonably priced. For a great, speedy meal I highly recommend Dragon Garden.
The internet is possibly one of the most amazing concepts ever conceived. Anything can be shared from any part of the world whenever one desires and can be shared with whomever one desires. One of the most common things shared in the vast space of internet is music. From youtube music videos to the genome project, Pandora, music is constantly being shared through the internet. One of the best websites for sharing new and upcoming bands or songs is Camelbackmusic.com. For anything ranging from Jack Johnson to Wiz Khalifa to Cee-Lo Green, Camelbackmusic.com is essentially a blog spot where anyone can enter a little blog attached with up to 5-6 songs. These mini playlists can be listened to by any visitor to the site and is a great way to discover new music because we all know nothing kills a good song like the radio simply overplaying it. Camelbackmusic.com offers a wide variety of music and although the artist may be popular, the song is virtually unknown but yet so darn catchy. So, if you are looking for a new way to discover the not-burnt-out music without having to tune into a radio station, I highly recommend venturing to Camelbackmusic.com.
The open campus of Cartersville High School is great on the beautiful, sunny days of Spring. However, when you have to have April showers to bring the May flowers, the days of rain can definitely but a damper on the day as the rain is nearly impossible to avoid when changing classes. Instead of using obnoxious umbrellas, I would suggest investing in a Patagonia rain jacket. While the rain jacket does come at the typical Patagonia price, it always carries along Patagonia quality. Even on the walk to Coach Hardy in the Storm Center, your Patagonia rain jacket is certain to keep you stylish, warm, and dry as a bone. When everyone else is rocking the wet dog look you might as well go against the grain and keep yourself dry all at the same time.
Between prom and spring break, Spring is the prime time to get your bronze on. With all the different tanning salons in Cartersville how do you possibly know which one is the best? No Sand Tan (located in the shopping center across from Cartersville Middle School) has the best deals by far. Owner Randy Black has two children that are students here at CHS, Ty Black and Cydney Black, so there are often great deals for students. In the month of February there were deals of up to 25% off packages and lotions for students. Not only are the prices great but the salon also offers excellent beds to lay in. With a choice between regular, super, turbo, and high pressure beds, any desired tan can be achieved. The employees are friendly, the prices are great and the beds are of considerable quality. No Sand Tan definitely offers the best "bang for your buck".
The technological world is moving at the speed of light and is often times hard to keep up with. Recently Apple has released the iPad 2 which is suppose to be the hottest technology on the market today. With features of facetime, 10-hour battery life, HD video, and two cameras located on the front and the back it is the much improved version of the first generation iPad. Compared to the original iPad the iPad 2 is 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter to offer an all-new design. While the price is close to five-hundred dollars it appears to be well worth the money.

When Nintendo took the world by storm with the Wii, Xbox quickly responded with the creation of the Kinect. The Kinect is far more advanced with a built in camera and recognizes the player and responds to each movement the player makes without any controllers or wires. Dance Central is only one of the hit games for the Xbox Kinect. Players can choose from over 50 songs to dance to either by going solo or in a dance battle for two players. The Kinect has taken over the video gaming market with its revolutionizing technology that gets gamers active and is fun to play.
Being the host country to the World Cup is possibly one of the biggest honors in the world. While the battle was wall fought between big name countries including the United States, Qatar prevailed. Although many were upset with the original decision to have Qatar play host to the 2022 World Cup, opinions have changed. Qatar is known for its wealth and beautiful beaches. The presentation for the proposed World Cup stadiums that Qatar is hoping to build is incredible (can be found on youtube by typing in "Qatar proposed World Cup Stadiums"). The intricate designs of the stadiums offer a great appeal to soccer fans across the world. Not only is Qatar a place to travel in 2022 for great soccer but also can serve as a great vacation.
